Why do professionals use slide film rather than negative film?

Why do professionals use slide film rather than negative film? What are the
advantages and disadvantages to this type of film?

Not all professionals use slide film. The ones that do use it because of the 4 color seperations needed for color printing by publications and most publications require it. Wedding, portrait, etc. pros use negative film.

Negatives are hard to judge for correct exposure and color shift problems.

Many clients require this form as they are not photographers and cannot associate with the negative image. Many times this is also a more economical approach as it does not require the additional expense of printing. Slides are more of a what you see is what you get medium, easily recognised by an art director.
