I'm planning a trip to the north rim of the Grand Canyon mainly to shoot
fall color. I was over there a couple of weeks ago and among other things,
I was amazed at the quantity of aspen, and that makes me expect some serious
foliage. The question is when.

I recall a post from perhaps a year or more ago saying Oct 7-15 is the most
likely peak time, which sounds fairly reasonable given the 8000+ ft
elevation. Does anyone have any personal experience to offer? I'm looking
to schedule some time off and make reservations.

Call the North Rim ranger station. That's what I did. They are very good
at forecasting when the "peak" will be.

Also, be aware that everybody and their brothers, sisters, nieces and
nephews, grandma and grandpa will be there for the same thing. So, you'll
need to make reservations, if you're going to stay at the lodge or
campground at the Rim. I usually call first about mid-September for
estimates for "peak", make a reservation or two or three, then call 10
days later for an update to narrow down the time, maybe cancelling one or
two of the reservations. Weekends, particularly the last weekend of the
season before the Rim closes for the winter, are the busiest. I always
tried to go in the middle of the week.
