Being a city boy all my life I never noticed spider webs. Now that I live
in the country I see them all the time and some are beautiful. My question
is what is the best way to take a picture of them. I am having spotty
results right now and I justy want to be a little better. Thanks for your
help.

In a word: backlighting.
Have fun.

You can also spray the spider web with a water mister. With that
and back lighting, you can get a string of pearls effect.

I generally achieve best results with about 3/4 backlighting with a dark
background, early morning when the sun is low and soft. Shoot with a large
aperture to keep the background out of focus, and use manual focus so you
know what you're getting sharpest. Wait for the breeze to die down, since it
can actually move the web out of focus, especially with a long exposure
time.
Shut the flash off, unless you need the occupant well-lit. Carry a
misting bottle for when the dewpoint doesn't cooperate. Walk around, crouch,
stretch, to see where the best lighting occurs. Getting direct sunlight on
water droplets in the web can create little starbursts, and this can be
heightened by star or diffraction filters.

Hi, I'm new in this forum and started to have interest with photography a few months ago, so you can say I'm a freshie. What I like to start on is taking pictures of insects. Mentioned here is getting that perfect pictures of spiderwebs. I would love to learn how to capture a very distinct look of an insect, say a grasshopper, at a very close range without the blurry background.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for the info. I'll try to check this out. I'll even practice with my canon Eos. Thank you and God bless.
