Im taking my first photography class. We're supposed to take two types of pictures: One is where the object you are shooting is in focus and the background is blurry.....the second is when the object is blurry but the background is in focus....i'm using an SLR and its black and white photography......would really appreciate some help!

Angel,
Set your F-stop to 2.8 or larger for both shots. Set shutter speed at what ever is required for proper exposure. In first picture focus on the in the forgound. (Press your depth of field button - you should see background out of focus)
For second picture with your f-stop still on f2.8 focus on the background. (Press your depth of field button again - you should see foreground object out of focus while background is in focus) -This all has to do with depth of field of lens.
good luck.

I've noticed that pictures with in focus object and blurry background or vice versa has the object in the middle. Can we set the object anywhere except in the middle without the use of image editing?
